Applied Whole-Horse Hoof Care Certification
PhD in Theatre and Performance
A lifelong horseperson, I started my hoof care journey when I adopted my horse Theo in 2022. He came to me with high, contracted heels, deep thrush in all four feet, and an emphatic aversion to having his feet touched. I was fortunate to find the Mackinaw Dells 2 classes and set out on a learning journey to help Theo live more comfortably both physically and emotionally. As his feet developed, Theo underwent major transformations in body and demeanor: he could swing more freely through back and he was calmer and happier in his day-to-day life. Theo showed me that as much as the horse's entire living environment impacts their feet, their hooves likewise impact everything from their movement to their behavior.
As a trainer at 13 Hands Equine Rescue, I soon found myself trimming a number of horses and ponies, always striving to listen to the horse about what they needed to live comfortably in their hooves and bodies. The rescue horses were superb teachers and I had the privilege of working with many horses who were entirely new to human handling or who had had negative past experiences with humans. Helping these horses rebuild their trust in people and with hoof care in particular was an incredible honor and a formative experience in my journey as a horseperson.
After honing my trimming skills for several years at the rescue, I completed my Applied Whole Horse Hoof-Care Certification with Mackinaw Dells 2 in 2026. I am incredibly grateful to have had opportunities to observe and learn from trimmers such as Ida Hammer, Geri White, Sue Mellon, and Bobbi Jo Stone. I am deeply committed to continuing my education in whole-horse hoof care in order to provide each individual equine with the best options for their unique hooves, body, and environment.
